How to update your fans for $14

If you have a brass fan, and it works fine, but you don't like brass, and don't have a lot of money, I have a solution for you!

1. Take down the fan... it's not that hard, you don't even need a second pair of hands!

Unscrew the blades from their little metal prongs, wipe down all surfaces you want to paint with a degreaser (you wouldn't believe the gunk I wiped off those blades...), tape off the wiring...

And spray!
I used Rustoleum oil rubbed bronze primer + paint in one.

You'll only be able to spray one side of the fixture at a time (since it's round); when that side is dry, turn it over and spray the other side!

It took only two days (including dry time), and it's like I have new fixtures completely!

It was a little involved - taking the fans down and disconnecting the power and all, but it was time vs money for me, and this was only the cost of a two bottles of spray paint for $14.
